If you drove by Auchindrain Museum sometime between the 19th and the 22nd of June, you may have noticed the Clydesdale horses and the full parking lot. Auchindrain was hosting its Living History event. The four day event was an opportunity for people to experience first hand the traditional skills and rural crafts of those people from farming townships such as Auchindrain from days gone by. Artists, farmers and craftspeople held workshops and demonstrations which included spinning, storytelling, basket making, organic gardening, and Gaelic waulking.

The 19th and 20th, though open to the general public, were directed toward schoolchildren and home schooled children; Over 250 students participated, some from as far away as Carradale and Sandbank. Students participated hands on with some of the traditional skills and crafts. When asked if they would like to experience Living History days again, the answer was a resounding “Yes!”

On the 21st and 22nd of June, though less structured, Living History was open to the general public. Visitors were invited to participate fully.

Now that the Clydesdale horses have returned home, you will be happy to know the highland cows are still at Auchindrain anxiously awaiting your arrival. Additional events are planned for the season; please refer to the Friends of Auchindrain page of this website for further details.
